First Impressions of the new HoTA Bulwark Faction - A Frozen Northern Stronghold Horn of the Abyss Developers have just released HoTA v1.8.0 which includes the long awaited Bulwark faction. What a way to start the year! Bulwark introduces a secondary skill called Runes — it's a new game mechanic that lets units build up magical runes in combat to buff attack, defense, and speed. But it's a skill so it takes a slot You'll notice that Bulwark doesn't have any flying units, but it has two ranged units at Tier 2 and Tier 5. We haven't gotten into unlocking the Tier 7 Jotunn yet, but we will in the next part. This faction seems to focus much more on defense with slower moving units and various mechanics providing for improved stats. Units are Tanky. I am also noticing a lot of quality of life improvements such as a health bar indicator that helps you make quicker decisions. There's some other visuals that have changed.
