Supplies & Steps for Each Method: Laser Print Image Transfer: Supplies: • Laser-printed image (black & white or color) • Acrylic paint or gel medium • Gel Plate • Paper • Brayer • Water • Soft cloth or sponge Favorite Supplies: https://go.boththingscreative.com/gel... Steps: 1. Apply an even layer of acrylic paint on your gelli plate. Aim for a velvety, smooth and very thin layer. Do this fairly quickly so you can lay your print down before the paint begins to dry. 2. Adjust your digital image to increase contrast and print in black and white. Highly recommend DOUBLE printing your image! 3. Place the laser-printed image face-down onto painted surface and smooth out any bubbles, applying a moderate amount of even pressure across the surface. 4. Pull the printed image up within 7-10 seconds, before the paint has a chance to dry and adhere to the printer toner. 5. Option to clean up any extra paint left on the plate surrounding your image. 6. Allow the transferred image to dry completely. 7. Apply a coat of acrylic paint or gel medium to the plate, covering the transferred image and lay down paper to pull the print. 8. Allow the paint to dry completely (10 minutes or so) and pull the print! Inkjet Print Image Transfer: Supplies: • Inkjet-printed image (black & white or color) • Make sure your printer uses pigment-based ink • Gel Plate • Paper • Brayer • Water • Soft cloth or sponge 1. Adjust your digital image to increase contrast and print in black and white. 2. Print on Office Depot Business paper (link below) using a black pigment-based ink. Photo printers typically do not work for this process. 3. Place image face down on a clean gel plate. 4. Apply light pressure across surface and pull the printed image off the plate slowly. 5. Apply a coat of acrylic paint or gel medium to the plate, covering the transferred image and lay down paper to pull the print! IMPORTANT INKJET REMINDERS: NO PHOTO PAPER. Students have damaged their gel plate trying to remove a photo paper, so if you try other paper, please be careful and pull slowly! 📌 This is the paper that works for me: https://amzn.to/4aT1e9r 📌 Pigmented ink works, dye-based does not. Google your ink! Some printers have two black cartridges and only the black for printing copies (NOT PHOTOS) works for this process. You may also have to manually adjust the setting (on both printer and computer) in order to get the right combination. Regular black ink on glossy (or plain paper.) Using the color setting will also not work. Even colored images need to be printed using the black setting.
