Three months ago, I left the UK to slow travel the world in retirement. I never expected to be back so soon. In this video, I share why I had to return to the UK earlier than planned and how being diagnosed with an autoimmune disease while travelling in Malaysia has completely changed the way I can travel — at least for now. I talk honestly about leaving Asia sooner than expected, the physical toll of long-haul travel, flare-ups that arrive without warning, and why slow travel has become the only realistic option for me. From needing airport assistance again to learning how fatigue and joint pain can suddenly disrupt plans, this is the reality of travelling with a chronic illness. Coming home wasn’t an easy decision. I cover the emotional impact of returning to the UK, the relief of being close to family, and the frustration of adjusting to a healthcare system and lifestyle that feel very different from life abroad. This isn’t the end of my journey — it’s about adapting, resetting expectations, and learning how to move forward when life doesn’t go to plan. If you’re travelling in retirement, living abroad, or managing a long-term health condition, I hope this video helps you feel less alone.
