Commissioned by the New Zealand Road Carriers Association in 1966, this marvellous documentary looks at the importance of trucking to New Zealand and is a window into an era of mainly British trucks at work in a nation that was heavily dependant on mother-Britain for its existence at that time. It looks at the many aspects of trucking that helped develop the infrastructure necessary for New Zealand to become one of the leading agricultural nations of that era. For those with an interest in the great British brands of that era, this doco offers up ERF, Foden and Leyland trucks in abundance which dominated the landscape due to strict regulations that dictated a at least 50% Commonwealth content for any truck imported into New Zealand in this era - and it was just easier to import British trucks, rather than wrestle with the rules of the day. Australian sourced Internationals were an important part of the trucking landscape at that time, and also feature in this film. If you enjoyed this insight into the industry - you might enjoy this look at the industry created half a century later - which goes much deeper into the evolution of the New Zealand Road Transport industry - The Truck Files - A history of Trucking in New Zealand Part 1 - • Episode 1 - A history of trucking - T...
