“Art is not what you see but what you make others see.” This is a quote by Edgar Degas, who was an impressionist artist from the 1800s known for his paintings, sculptures, prints, and drawings. Over half of his works depict dancers. As a “wanna be” dancer, I emotionally see myself in his art and it’s an enjoyable experience! Happy emotions can arise from these Art Journaled cards with Gesso texture, Brusho Pigments, Spray Starch and Glitter too -- for you, the creator and sender, and for the person who finds it in their mailbox. Brusho Crystal Color is a highly pigmented, transparent watercolor ink powder that comes in 32 beautiful colors. I only have about half of them and they do come as a set. Intense and versatile, they can be used alone or mixed with acrylics or other watercolor paints for a gorgeous impressionistic result. Here’s what I used today: -Watercolor Paper - Mix Media by Canson (https://www.amazon.com/Mix-Media-Pad-...) -Gesso - Galeria White Gesso Primer (http://www.winsornewton.com/na/shop/o...) -Gloves -Internal cardboard from a roll of used up tape -Brusho Pigments in Emerald Green, Lime Green, Ultramarine, Ost Blue, and Brilliant Red (https://www.amazon.com/Brusho-Crystal...) -Spray Starch (https://www.amazon.com/Easy-Spray-Sta...) -Very Fine Glitter - “Fairy Dust Glitter” by Clear Snap (https://www.amazon.com/TWINKLE-Dust-G...) -Blue Glitter found buried in my art room -Plastic wrap or a re purposed plastic disposable shopping bag Be adventurous with texture! Look around your house for “trash,” and you’ll probably find something interesting to add interest into the wet gesso. Next time, I’m going to let the gesso dry slightly before putting the circles in to see if that will make them bolder and deeper. See what you can come up with and let me know! The directions below are only suggestions! Here’s the drill: 1. With gloved hands, spread gesso over the paper. 2. Using the center cardboard from a roll of tape, randomly make circles in the gesso. Let dry. 3. Pick out three to five colors of ink pigments and apply to the dry paper. 4. Wet with the spray starch and watch the colors brilliantly pop off of the paper. 5. Add more color where desired. 6. Sprinkle glitter onto the wet, starch-coated paper. 7. Cut open the plastic shopping bag and scrunch it onto the paper. 8. Let dry for at least 3 hours. 9. Remove plastic, write a note, send, and smile! Since I was out of plastic wrap, I tried the plastic shopping bag! It was a terrific solution and a great way to recycle. Typically, I like to avoid loose glitter because it seems to multiply in my art room, in my hair, and everywhere that it shouldn’t be, but spray starch was a good way to keep it on the card. Art evokes emotion and everyone sees something different.
