Back in the day, Hardcore difficulty was very infamous for being one of the hardest difficulties in gaming and held one of the toughest achievements you could ever earn. I am here to inform you, that this is not the case. If you know what you are doing, Hardcore difficulty is not super bad. It just feels bad when you make a mistake and pay for that mistake. I am using this guide to help you deal with the worst threats with the bare minimum resources. Below are more details on what Hardcore is. For some reason on Steam, there are no achievements, so beating Hardcore gives you no rewards but bragging rights. So no Hand Cannon secret weapon or Hard to the Core achievement. A big part of the commentary I do is finding topics to talk about, and I get into some heated topics of which I have strong feelings about. So I'm sorry if you feel put off by it, but I needed to pass the time while nothing serious was happening to be talked about. Hardcore Difficulty Conditions: 1. Survivalist - the game is set by default to Survivalist difficulty, a slightly more difficult variant of Normal difficulty with lower ammo pickups and health drop rates, as well as everything dealing a bit more damage. 2. Permadeath - you are given 3 saves, and once you use all 3, you cannot save again. If you are killed, you respawn back at your most recent save. So the longer you go without saving, the more of a run-back you risk. It is recommended to go as far as possible before making your first save. Tips: 1. Plasma Cutter is the best weapon for most of the game. More weapons you buy and hold, mean less Plasma Cutter pickups. If you want more reliable ammo quantities - stick with the Plasma Cutter 80% of the game. 2. Other great weapons to use are the Contact Beam and Force Gun. Seeker Rifle can be great but it fires slow. Flamethrower is effective but limited in range and needs lots of upgrades. Ripper is great but lacks range. 3. First Save should either be Chapter 7 or Chapter 10. From there, save at your own discretion. 4. Memorise where you can die instantly either by the on-rails sequences, getting sucked out of the windows or blown up by cysts. 5. Stasis is king. Upgrade it as much as possible as soon as possible. Use it as much as you can. If you need to, stop and wait for it to charge up before moving on. 6. Save Stasis Packs either for use or selling in your safe. Buy the occasional Power Nodes, but stick mostly to keeping your Health and Ammo in good supply. Keep all inventory slots open for sellable items. If you need to run back to a store often, do so, as early on you will find yourself getting full often. 7. If you have an internet connection, many suits and weapons will become available for free. Ignore the weapons as it messes with your pickups in game. The suits are good but only for about 25% of the game. But the Riot Security Suit gives you the highest armour and inventory count early on above all the others - so if you don't care about giving yourself the most honest form of the challenge, just buy that suit for free and have fun. 8. You don't have to fight everything, but be ready to slow them with Stasis, or knock them over, or be prepared for them to follow you into the rooms through the vents.
