'n (Chai) (2019)

In Hebrew, חי means 18, it also is the word for 'life'. I wear it as a pendant which was a gift from grandmother. חי (chai) is an attempt to comprehend the death of my grandmother. For the eighteen years that she was present in my life, she embodied the joy of living. I struggled to understand how that energy could suddenly cease to exist. I perform the action of raising the peach, as a symbol for immortality, as slowly as I can through aching arms to delay the immediacy of loss. Ultimately it crashes to the ground--left as a cracked peach with the absense of חי.
