If you want more maps on your Garmin device, here's a way to do it for free. ✅ *LATEST GEAR LIST: https://hikingguy.com/best-hiking-gear/ CalTopo: https://caltopo.com/map.html PDF to KMZ: https://mygeodata.cloud/converter/pdf... Google Earth Pro: https://www.google.com/earth/about/ve... Open MTP: https://openmtp.ganeshrvel.com Android File Transfer: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Qfe8... If you’re considering Garmin’s Maps Plus subscription to get satellite or USGS topographic maps on your device, there’s a way to get similar or even better results — and it’s free. This video covers a simple, three-step method to add custom maps to your Garmin device, from topographic to satellite and everything in between. As long as your device supports mapping, like the Garmin Fenix or GPSMAP handhelds, you can load all kinds of georeferenced PDFs or maps you make yourself. First, I walk you through using CalTopo to create a map PDF. CalTopo is a robust tool that’s free, easy to use, and doesn’t even require an account. You get access to multiple layers like Forest Service and satellite imagery, plus overlays for added detail. After you generate your map, you’ll convert it into a KMZ file, which will make it compatible with your Garmin device. I recommend online tools for this part — they’re quick, simple, and don’t require software downloads. Once your KMZ file is ready, just connect your Garmin device, find the Custom Maps folder, and load it up. For most Garmin devices, it’s easy to toggle custom maps on or off, which keeps the screen running smoothly. If you’re using a Fenix 8, however, be aware there isn’t currently an on-off toggle, but removing custom maps from the device is straightforward. This process isn’t sponsored by CalTopo or Garmin; it’s just an easy, cost-effective way to get custom map layers without paying for Maps Plus. ♥️ SAY THANKS: https://hikingguy.com/support-hiking-... 🌎 Bucket List Hikes You Should Try: https://bit.ly/bucket-list-hikes 👀Subscribe For New Hike & Guide Videos / @hikingguy 👍Monthly Email For New Hike Updates: https://hikingguy.com/newsletter/ 🎆Instagram For Insider Hike Info: / hikingguy_com #maps #garmin #hiking #hike #hikingvlog #hikinggear #hikingtrails #hikingandcamping #hikingandcampingforbeginners #hikingandcampingvlog #hikingandbackpacking #52HikeChallenge #backpacking #healthyliving #trails #outdoors #naturehike @caltopo8571
