After my friend bought year-old cannabis from a legal dispensary in Oregon, it sparked a discussion on cannabis shelf life and why it matters. I have seen absolutely unreal organic grow ops in Oregon so I am not knocking Oregon cannabis by any means! This was just an incident that occurred where my friend purchased pretty old bud from an Oregon dispensary, and it was just a bit surprising given that it came from a legal, regulated market. We didn't anticipate that bud from a year ago would still be on the shelves. In Colorado, we go through so much ganja and our markets are so active that I never see bud on the shelf that was harvested a year ago. I know we all have experience, especially in our days of buying on the black market, where we or a friend would stash some nugs and we would discover the stashed nugs years later and smoke it. It is not that the concern is, 'omg don't smoke that old ganja or you'll die', I just made this video to explain why freshness does matter and why it makes a difference when using this plant for the herbal therapy that it is. Think about food. The longer food sits on a shelf, the more its nutrient content dissipates and the food becomes visibly older, like shriveled or changing color. Same concept with cannabis. The quality, potency, and therapeutic effects become compromised over time. P.s. I have a kitten and a dog and they were batting things around and causing a small racket in the background haha If some weird noises in the background of the video are making you curious, it is just them. / laynieganja / laynieganja
