In this video from Orthopedics Today Hawaii 2021, Douglas A. Dennis, MD, spoke about alignment of a total knee replacement to a 0° mechanical axis. “We certainly know it works. It kind of has been the tried and true,” he said. He added, “I think that to do every knee with ‘kinematic alignment,’ where you are taking similar thicknesses – a bone resection from each condyle of the tibia and each condyle of the femur – is not for everyone. In my practice, I think there is a cohort of patients where we probably ought not go ahead and place our alignment at 0° of mechanical axis.
