And our time driving down through Canada on our way back from Alaska has been one of the best examples of this in our 7 years of travel! Banff and Jasper are just incredible from EVERY perspective, but we really enjoyed getting to see both for the first time heading south! We started from Athabasca Glacier where we stopped and stayed for the night, seeing it in the beautiful morning light for the first time ever and enjoying the view without thousands of other tourist surrounding us! Our plan was to stop and hike the Johnston Canyon Trail to the Upper and Lower Falls, but when we arrived the parking lots were packed. So we shifted gears and pulled into the Johnston Canyon Campground to see if they had any available sites. Just our luck, they had many large tent sites available that they let us use since our Grand Design Lineage Class C was small enough to fit! Moral of the story - always stop and ask! This allowed us to have lunch and get some work done before heading out to our afternoon adventure - taking a gondola ride up to the top of a ski mountain! Banff Sunshine Village Ski and Snowboard Resort invited us to check out their amazing gondola ride to the stunning meadow at the top of the ski resort. We were so excited to check out the views from the gondola and the ski lift rides, but we weren’t prepared for how spectacular the hike through the meadows at the top of the mountain would be! We walked through pine forests that smelled like Christmas, visited mountain top lakes with islands in the middle, walked through snow from that morning, and kept our eyes peeled for 2 grizzlies that had been spotted earlier that day! 10 out of 10 experience that we definitely recommend if you are in Banff during the summer months! On our way home, we stopped back at Johnston Canyon and enjoyed a very quiet trail with most of the hikers leaving for dinner! Johnston Canyon is known for its fantastic suspended walkways along the rushing river. Both the Upper and Lower Falls trails are worth the time and effort, and the mist coming off the falls is perfect after you have hiked and worked up a sweat!  Our night ended with one of Corey’s favorites - meat sticks over the fire! Though this trip to Alaska has ended, we can’t wait to go back this September on our first ever Sail Away group cruise to Alaska with Nathan and Marissa from Less Junk, More Journey!
