A former migrant hotel manager was arrested after ten riot cops stormed his home, accused of stealing a ‘77p’ bowl of chicken pasta. Adam, 32, a citizen journalist from Trafford, says officers in full tactical riot gear burst into the house he shares with his disabled mum, shouting “you’re under arrest for burglary”. He claims every electronic device was seized as his mother, who has stage three Parkinson’s, was lifted onto the sofa while the search unfolded. The arrest came three weeks after Adam posted undercover footage from inside hotels housing asylum seekers. He claims he didn’t learn until he got to the custody desk that the burglary allegation related to eating food he hadn’t paid for at a migrant hotel. He says the portion of pasta would have cost around 77p. Adam had once run one of the hotels, but after being made redundant, he went back undercover to lift the lid on how taxpayers’ cash was being spent. During his time working at a migrant hotel, he says he witnessed “massive” amounts of food waste, including children having food fights with it, while his single-parent colleagues sometimes took leftovers home in Tupperware to stop food going to waste. Reflecting on his arrest, Adam alleged it was “a show of force” aimed at stopping people from revealing what happens inside asylum hotels. He said: “If you do, the full force of the law will come down on you and try to scare you into basically shutting up.” It is understood officers wore face masks to conceal their identities as they expected to be filmed during the operation. A Greater Manchester Police spokeswoman said: "On Friday 22 August 2025, we arrested a 32-year-old man on suspicion of burglary following a reported incident on Friday 1 August 2025 in Trafford. He has been bailed pending further investigations." Talk's Ian Collins is joined by Talk's international editor Isabel Oakeshott to discuss the story further. Have you got a story?
