What is fastener strength? Fastener strength refers to how much mechanical stress a fastener—such as a bolt—can handle before deforming or breaking. The three most important fastener strength metrics are: ✅ Tensile strength - The maximum axial force a fastener can withstand before it breaks. ✅Yield strength - The load at which a fastener begins to deform permanently (plastic deformation). ✅Proof load - the highest load a fastener can sustain without permanently deforming—used as the safe working load. In this Tech Talk, Bossard's Application Engineering Manager Doug Jones explains how to: - Differentiate between tensile, yield, and proof load - Calculate fastener strength for real-world applications - Choose the right fastener for safety and performance Common questions we answer in this video: - What is the difference between tensile strength and yield strength? - What is proof load on a bolt? - How do I calculate bolt strength in assembly design? 👉 Subscribe for more fastener education and engineering tips. 📧 Contact our engineering team: info.na@bossard.com 🔗 Learn more: https://www.bossard.com/us-en/service...
