EPISODE 3 OF THE JORDAN ROADTRIP In this travel vlog, we drive one of the most legendary and historic routes in the Middle East — the King’s Highway in Jordan. For thousands of years, this road has connected cities, empires, and travelers from across the ancient world. It’s a route once traveled by kings, merchants, and pilgrims, stretching from Amman all the way to Petra. Today, my cousins and I are driving it ourselves — from Amman to Wadi Musa, stopping at castles, mountain towns, and desert viewpoints that bring history to life. Our first major stop was Kerak Castle, one of Jordan’s most famous Crusader fortresses. Built in the 12th century, it stands high above the surrounding valleys, watching over the land like it has for nearly a thousand years. Walking through the castle’s tunnels and courtyards, we could feel the echoes of its history — from the Crusaders who built it to the battles that shaped it. The view from the top was incredible, stretching across the hills of central Jordan, reminding us how vast this country really is. After exploring Kerak, we headed into town to grab lunch, hoping for a quick bite before continuing our drive. But in true travel fashion, things didn’t quite go as planned. We stopped for what looked like a simple falafel stand, but somehow ended up getting scammed on sandwiches — a funny, frustrating, and memorable travel story all in one. Even so, it added to the adventure, reminding us that travel is never perfect — and that’s what makes it real. From there, the King’s Highway wound through dramatic landscapes — cliffs, canyons, and tiny villages where time seems to move slower. Every turn revealed something new: shepherds guiding their flocks, children waving from the roadside, and endless desert stretching toward the horizon. Driving this route feels less like a commute and more like traveling through a story — one that’s been told for thousands of years. Our next stop was Shobak Castle, another Crusader fortress that rises alone from the hills. Unlike Kerak, Shobak is quieter, more isolated, and beautifully haunting. Exploring its stone walls and tunnels felt like stepping back in time. You can stand there, surrounded by silence and desert wind, and imagine the traders, soldiers, and travelers who once passed through this place centuries ago. Just down the road from Shobak, we came across something completely unexpected — the smallest hotel in the world. It’s literally a single car turned into a tiny hotel, managed by the legendary Abu Ali, a local man who has become famous among travelers for his hospitality. He invited us to his nearby cave home, where he shared tea, stories, and a song. Sitting inside that cave, Abu Ali sang a heartfelt tune — a prayer asking for peace in the Middle East. It was a powerful moment that transcended language, culture, and distance. It reminded us that travel isn’t just about seeing places — it’s about connecting with people who share their hearts and stories with you. As the day went on, we continued our journey south toward Wadi Musa, the gateway to Petra. The drive became even more stunning — the sun setting over the desert, the mountains glowing orange and red, and the road twisting through canyons that looked untouched by time. After hours on the road, we finally arrived in Wadi Musa, tired but amazed at everything we’d seen along the way. This trip along the King’s Highway was more than a road trip — it was a journey through history, culture, and connection. From ancient castles to roadside caves, from falafel mishaps to songs about peace, this drive showed us the real Jordan — raw, beautiful, and unforgettable. If you’re planning a trip to Jordan in 2025 or want to know what it’s like to travel the King’s Highway from Amman to Petra, this video will give you a genuine look at the experience.
