Without telemetry. Stage 11 - Pontebba to Venzone 34.6 km 80 minutes - 30m ascent - 340m descent. Starting from the centre of Pontebba, this stage of the Alpe-Adria cycle trail heads south along the BI-22 road before rejoining the converted railway line. This section is a magnificent route through many tunnels and over splendid bridges. It is difficult to put into words just how enjoyable this section is to ride as it is just one breath-taking experience after another. After 13km, you may want to catch your breath at Chiusaforte, where the railway station is now a resting place where you can stop for refreshments. The trail, after the town of Resiutta leaves the ex-railway line and joins the road once again. Finally, the beautiful fortified village of Venzone is reached, with its extraordinary architecture and cathedral. Alpe Adria Cycle Trail: The route leads from the historic city of Salzburg to the beautiful resort town of Grado on the Italian Adriatic covering approximately 410 kilometres. Along the way, you cycle through the splendour of the Austrian Alps and past Hohenwerfen Castle (which featured in the films 'Where Eagles Dare' and 'The Sound of Music'). You also travel through the wonderful Austrian county of Carinthia, renowned for its sunshine, crystal-clear drinking quality lakes and rugged mountains. From Carinthia, the route crosses the Italian border joining a remarkable ex-railway line through the beautiful Tarvisio, through repurposed railway tunnels and over dedicated bridges that once ferried many rail passengers through the Italian Alps. The route then moves through the Friuli wine region and into the lovely city of Udine before finally venturing out to the Adriatic coast and the charming coastal resort town of Grado.
