In this video, Populous, released in 1989 for the Atari ST by Electronic Arts. It's hard to find new ideas to make games appealing, but Peter Molyneux and its Bullfrog team were genious and they gave birth to a series of "you play God" games of which the first was Populous. It was a major success and was ported to nearly every 16 bit platform and of course there was an Atari ST version. Populous is a real time strategy game in which the player controls the evolution of a primitive people in a "still wild" world and in competition with another player or AI, using their divine powers that costs "mana" gained by the mortals who pray . The player takes on the role of one of two deities, one good and one bad, and must lead his people with the aim of exterminating the enemy people, devoted to the rival deity (the two peoples are distinguished by red or blue clothes). With very devoted populations the player gains enough mana and power to change the landscape and help people build castles up to create volcanos or earthquakes to destroy the enemy faction. Graphically the game is superb, very detailed and well animated, the audio is totally digitized as it is the good music intro. The playability is at high levels and the many levels grant a good longevity. Here you'll find intro with digitized music and general gameplay showing poorly spent mana to show God powers. All footage taken from original hardware machines and upscaled to 1080P. Let me know what do you think about the video in the comments below but, most important, Enjoy!!! If you liked the video, please consider giving a thumbs up and maybe also subscribe. Thanks for watching.
