To those who are new to this technology, this webinar is an excellent introduction to air classifying milling systems. To those who are already familiar with this technology this video may provide additional information on air classifying technology. The Mikro ACM Air Classifying Mill is an air swept mechanical impact mill designed to grind an extensive range of materials, all the way down to D98 = 20 µm. This mill is significant in that it was the first milling system to incorporate an internal classifier, which is what allows it to have such a small particle size distribution. This video will cover many of the details of the ACM Air Classifying Mill. History The Mikro ACM Air Classifying Mill was first developed by Hosokawa Micron in the late 1960s. It was designed to be capable of both fine grinding and classification in a single operation. Over the years, continuous improvements and modifications have expanded its performance and application range. How it Works The Mikro ACM Air Classifying Mill uses air to push the feed material through the grinding chamber and classifier wheel. As it goes through the grinding chamber, it is ground by a series of impact hammers attached to a rotor. Then, if the particle is small enough, it will pass through the classification wheel and exit through the volute assembly at the top of the mill. Particles that are not small enough will not be able to pass through the classifier and will return to the grinding chamber for further size reduction. Specifications The Mikro ACM Air Classifying Mill is capable of grinding a range of materials down to D98 = 20 µm, provided it has a Mohs hardness that is less than or equal to five. It is suitable for chemical, mineral, food, and pharmaceutical applications. Customization The Mikro ACM Air Classifying Mill is available with stainless steel, specialty alloy, and titanium components. It also has various wear protection options, such as AR steel, stellite, tungsten carbide, ceramic, and wear protective coatings. Laboratory, pilot, and production sizes are also available.
