The aircraft failed to pressurize after takeoff from Larnaca, Cyprus, due to the pressurization mode selector being left in "Manual" during maintenance the night before. The crew overlooked this setting during preflight checks. As the aircraft climbed, warning horns sounded, oxygen masks deployed, and the pilots—unaware they were suffering from hypoxia—lost consciousness. The plane continued on autopilot at 34,000 feet, entering Greek airspace unresponsive. Two F-16 fighter jets intercepted the aircraft and reported an unconscious crew and a mysterious figure later entering the cockpit—likely a flight attendant attempting to save the flight. Moments later, the engines flamed out from fuel exhaustion, and the aircraft crashed at 12:03 PM.
