This is a playthrough using Geese Howard in the Arcade version of Fatal Fury 1. Read on below for more information... Geese Howard is the final boss of the game. He is an unplayable character. This is an alternative version of the Arcade game, where the boss characters are specially made playable. ===== ABOUT FF1 GEESE ===== One of SNK's most famous boss characters and the staple Fatal Fury boss. Martial artist, businessman, gangster and the main antagonist to the Bogard brothers. This is Geese Howard's debut game... if you ever wondered what he looked and fought like in his very first appearance, here it is. Over the years, his future incarnations shows how much he has evolved... but his design and gameplay has always remained true to his roots. For example, his Reppuken and Counter special moves (which FF1 Geese has) are pretty much his trademarks. ===== BUGS & GLITCHES ===== As he is originally a non-playable character, there are a number of interesting factors to note when a human player controls him, as follows: ---- There are various glitches that can occur. Some of these faults are the result of Geese not being programmed to fight against and interact with the other bosses. ---- The CPU Geese is able to block high. The player controlled Geese doesn't seem to be able to do this. This basically means that he cannot block high. ---- The CPU Geese has a short backdash. The player controlled Geese doesn't seem to be able to do this. ---- The CPU Geese has a taunt. Yes you guessed it - the player controlled Geese doesn't seem to be able to do this. ---- His Throw Button, when it successfully grabs a boss/enemy character, is glitched in that the opponent falls the other way while Geese does the lying down leg throw (it's a bit like Ryu's kick throw in SF2). It works as normal against Joe, Terry and Andy of course. ---- When he is thrown by an enemy/boss character, the wrong animation frames are used. ---- Sometimes, there are some "wrong" animations in certain situations when Geese is switching planes. ---- On the stage backgrounds where there is no back plane (where the characters have to rebound off the elements if they get knocked into the background), Geese has a wrong animation frame for when he rebounds after being knocked into the background. ---- Against some enemy/boss characters, he freezes after doing his close-up uppercut, being stuck in one of his uppercut animation frames. ---- His colour palette is "wrong" for the first 4 matches against the first set of enemy opponents (Meyer, Max, Duck and Tung). After that, his colour palette is correct for the remaining matches. ---- His wrong colour palettes looks to be Richard Meyer's colours. ---- If you press Down to crouch, and then hold Down-Back he performs a crouching block. This is actually functional and can block opposition moves. This low-block can also be achieved by crouching and pressing the Throw button. ---- In the second part of the credits (after you beat the game), his name is misspelled as "GEESE HOWERD". ===== TRIVIA ===== ---- He became a playable character for the first time in the SNES and Mega Drive versions of Fatal Fury 1. ===== ABOUT FATAL FURY 1 ===== This is where SNK started their bid for their take on the fighting game genre. Fatal Fury 1 was a somewhat decent approach, but it was always going to be up against Capcom's Street Fighter II, which was released in the same year (1991). Perhaps the most "unique" aspect of the game is the fact that the characters can fight on two planes - the background and foreground, with the foreground being the standard view. I imagine this must've been a graphical achievement at the time. The game also marks the debut of Terry, Andy and Joe, before going on to become staples of the SNK fighting game world. The same also applies to some of the enemy/boss characters, such as Geese Howard and Billy Kane, who go on to appear in future SNK fighting games... with the former even appearing in Tekken 7. It should also be noted that the game's subtitle is The King of Fighters... this subtitle would later become the name of it's own fighting game series. The Fatal Fury storyline is loosely connected to the King of Fighters storyline, as the Fatal Fury Team's ending in KOF94 shows.
