When you have a slipped disc, your body is smart enough to lean away from the side that's in pain. This leaning can negatively affect your posture, making it uncomfortable to walk or move. To improve your posture & relieve pain from a bulging disc, Dr. Nikki Bechtol recommends the Side Glide exercise. Follow these steps to perform this stretch on your own: Step 1: Stand sideways, with your "good" side facing the wall. Step 2: Bring your feet 12 inches away from the wall. Step 3: Tuck your elbow (on your "good side") underneath your rib cage and place it against the wall. Step 4: Place your opposite hand on your hip and gently push your hip (on the affected side) until it touches the wall. Hold the movement for 3-5 seconds and repeat this exercise 10 times. You can adjust the curve in your low back, slightly flexing forward at first if it’s too painful. To progress, try to further extend (arch the back) as tolerated. Be sure to keep this movement slow & controlled.
