If you usually get your fix from mango-flavored Juul pods, you might soon be out of luck. Flavored Juul pods are disappearing from store shelves as the company makes good on its promise to sell its fruity-flavored nicotine juices only through its website, to deter teen use. But even without some of its best-selling products on store shelves, Juul controls an extremely lucrative market — one that its new owner, Altria, the tobacco conglomerate, hopes to capitalize on. The FDA, meanwhile, says it will lay out its rules for vapes within the next few weeks. One thing both regulatory agencies and Altria agree on: Teen vaping poses an existential threat to the entire industry. If Juul can’t keep Juuls out of teens’ hands, vapes could disappear entirely.
