South Korea had its first meeting on supporting and developing the country's three key industries - semiconductors, eco-friendly cars and biohealth. And in the coming year, the country aims to take the plan to the next level with expanded support,....aiming to become a global leader in the three sectors. Kim Sung-min reports. By 2025,... South Korea aims to become a global leader in the so-called BIG 3 sectors:( 1) system semiconductors,( 2) next-generation cars, and( 3) biohealth. And to achieve that goal, the country plans to go all out in the coming year,... expanding its support for the sectors. "By continuing the advanced technology seen in semiconductors, producing the world's best electric and hydrogen fueled cars and opening up the bioeconomy era,... the country will put maximum effort into taking the lead in these sectors in the global market." To do that, the government has set aside some 5-point-3 billion U.S. dollars of its budget next year for the three sectors,... 43-percent more than in 2021. Part of the plan is to expand the total supply of eco-friendly cars to up to 500-thousand. That's more than double the current supply. Some 65-thousand eco-friendly car buyers are expected to receive subsidies for cars priced above 46-thousand dollars. For the biohealth industry, the government plans to establish a digital infrastructure where people can be provided with medical services based on their health information. Issuing digital health care data will be part of this plan. As for the system's sector including AI semiconductors,... around 370-million dollars will be injected to support research and development. The BIG 3 are also expected to enjoy expanded tax incentives next year along with other strategic industries set by the government. The government is also aiming to pass a new law that will provide a legal foundation to allow these plans to proceed.
