This presentation explains why winter is the best time to kill an invasive woody plant. I have been controlling invasive trees, bushes, brush, brambles, etc., in late fall and winter for decades. This presentation offers five reasons why woody invasive plant control works so well when woody plants are dormant. The five advantages are: first, effectiveness; second, ease of movement; third, your comfort; fourth, no mosquitoes or ticks; and fifth, identification of the invasive plant. If you apply foam herbicide in the winter, it will not freeze up as long as you don't apply at temperatures below about 20 degrees Fahrenheit. You should also make sure you cut the stump close to ground level - about 1 to 2 inches above the ground; apply the foam herbicide to the live inner bark (phloem) and do so within about 5 to 10 minutes of cutting the stem. The presentation also discusses the dispensers that Green Shoots offers for sale including our new Ultra-Low Pressure Electronic Dispenser. This new electronic dispenser works great for cut stump applications, especially if you attach the mesh brush to the end of the wand. The mesh brush gives you a quick, no-drip way to apply herbicides efficiently and without having to bend down. The Green Shoots foam herbicide system – available from https://www.greenshootsonline.com/ - has several advantages over conventional spray systems. First, it is highly precise and selective. The foam can be discharged very slowly and placed on the target location. Second, once placed on the target, the foam herbicide sticks to the foliage or plant tissue of the tree. It doesn’t drip like liquids from a conventional spray system. Third, the foam herbicide dries slowly. This increases translocation of the herbicide so that the roots can be killed. Fourth, the foam herbicide is highly concentrated. This ensures that the mixture is sufficiently powerful to do the job. As explained in the video, using Green Shoots foam weed killer is easy. The herbicide can be placed directly on foliage of the tree – either the green leaves or green stems (not woody stems). Alternatively, if you want to remove the tree immediately, you can cut it and apply the foam herbicide to the remaining stump. If you do a stump application (as shown in this video), be sure to apply the foam herbicide immediately after cutting. Most trees have extensive root systems, so be sure to apply the foam herbicide to each stem of the unwanted tree that you can find.
