Sanjay Ruparelia is an assistant professor of politics at the New School for Social Research and the Project on Democracy and Development 's AY 2013 visiting associate research scholar. His interests include the rise and fall of the broader Indian left, prospects of power sharing in federal parliamentary democracies, and the role of institutions, strategy, and judgment in politics. His publications include Divided We Govern: The Paradoxes of Power in Contemporary Indian Democracy (forthcoming) and Understanding India's New Political Economy: A Great Transformation? (2011). At Princeton, Ruparelia is pursuing a new project that examines the move to enact a right to various socioeconomic entitlements through an innovative state-building project in contemporary Indian democracy. It is part of a longer-term collaborative research initiative to map, explain, and assess the phenomenon of prosperity, inequality, and reform in India and China. Ph.D. University of Cambridge.
