Most of the Chinese peacekeepers in Africa are assigned to four of the UN biggest missions there, helping to maintain peace and security, protecting vulnerable groups and supporting development. Beijing is among the world’s top 10 largest contributors of troops to the UN and among the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, China is the biggest contributor of troops who don the UN force’s distinctive blue berets or helmets. China is also the second-largest financial contributor to UN peacebuilding efforts, after the US.
