Today’s video is about the NEW CHANGES IN UK ASYLUM LAWS COMING SOON Over 4,000 people migrants have crossed the English Channel using small boats this year so far, and at present Conservative MPs are urging for strict measures to be taken. Boris Johnson stated on Monday that the UK would work in line with French authorities to stop migrants from trying the “dangerous” crossing, adding that the UK government must also look at the “panoply of laws that an illegal immigrant has at his or her disposal that permits them to reside here” if they cross the Channel successfully. The UK Home Office has asked the Ministry of Defence to support repair the circumstances, with a Royal Air Force (RAF) Atlas transport aircraft now having been utilized help catch arriving boats. The UK Border Force is also viewing its possibilities for new procedures to help curb the number of crossings. For the time being, 23 Conservative MPs and two peers have wrote to the UK home secretary, Priti Patel, demanding for “stronger enforcement” efforts to tighten up on the latest “surge in illegal immigration”. The UK is currently running under EU asylum law in agreement with the post-Brexit transition period which stop at the end of this year. An important part of that law is the Dublin regulation which specifies that a migrant’s asylum claim can be moved to the first member state they arrived. Downing Street has mentioned that after December 2020, the UK will seek to operate under a brand new asylum rules. Boris Johnson’s official spokesperson mentioned that the current Dublin regulation rules, which defends asylum seekers and limit transfers to a set time limit, would be “mistreated by both migrants and their lawyers to prevent the returns of those migrants who have no right to be in the UK”. Furthermore, the Conservative MPs and two peers recommended, in their letter to the home secretary mentioned that the UK declines to harmonize to any "similar" agreement to the Dublin regulation after December 2020 in its discussions with the EU.
