It is common knowledge that cracks in a building are inevitable, but if they are not treated properly, they can lead to adverse long term effects. Hence, we introduce “self-healing concrete”, a novel approach to solve a problem that is as old as concrete itself. In the above video, we uncover the mechanism behind this innovative technology. We point out that the ability to self-repair, coupled with increased durability, makes self-healing concrete a sustainable option. This will indeed be a significant advancement in concrete technology. This futuristic innovation results from a successful intersection between Biology and Civil Engineering - two sciences that are otherwise unlikely collaborators.
