The air strike was launched in retaliation to a rocket fired hours earlier from Gaza to Israel, an Israeli army spokesperson said. The Associated Press could not independently verify the Israeli claim of an earlier rocket attack being fired from Gaza. The target was a weapons factory, the Israeli spokesperson said. Local Palestinians deny it was a weapons factory. The injured were later taken for treatment to the Kamal Adwan hospital. The attacks occurred a day after Hamas announced it has reached an agreement with other militant groups in Gaza to stop firing rockets at southern Israeli towns in order to prevent retaliatory attacks. Hamas has mostly refrained from firing rockets since January when Israel ended a three-week offensive in Gaza aimed at stopping militants from launching rockets at the Jewish state on an almost daily basis. Other Gaza militant groups have since continued with rocket attacks, but on a much smaller scale than before the three week conflict. Hamas interior minister Fathi Hamad told reporters on Saturday evening that all militant factions had now agreed to a ceasefire. He said the agreement was designed to prevent Israeli retaliation attacks and provide stability for Gaza residents. About 1,400 Palestinians were killed, including hundreds of civilians, in the January offensive according to United Nations and Palestinian estimates. Thirteen Israelis were also killed. A rocket launched from Gaza exploded in southern Israel on Saturday morning causing no injuries. A small militant faction affiliated with al-Qaida claimed responsibility for the attack. Palestinians medical workers claimed a second attack occurred on Sunday, targeting the southern city of Rafah, near the border with Egypt.
