Exhibition Street, Melbourne, Australia - One minute tour walking north to south - winters morning. Melbourne city is located in a 1 by 0.5 mile grid of streets known as the Hoddle grid that forms the Melbourne central business district. This area is bounded by Flinders Street, Spring Street, La Trobe Street and Spencer Street. Geographically, this grid is not aligned to the Melbourne suburban grid and is hence an easily recognisable, defined region. It was named after its surveyor Robert Hoddle who marked out the area in 1837. This work from 150 years ago has contributed to Melbourne being awarded the worlds most livable city for seven years running. This video series is filmed in single shot, first person views of each street within the grid, providing a snap shot of life in this busy centre of Melbourne's commercial, retail and civic life. Join for a walk along Exhibition St, a street named after the International Exhibition held at the Royal Exhibition Building in 1880. Filmed in mid winter on a working week morning as the cities workers made their way into the office. Of interest, this was also filmed as the city was starting to come out of the Covid pandemic hibernation so it will be noted that the streets are still very quiet when compared to a normal Thursday morning in times past. The purpose of the video is to show the city as a guide for travellers and to add interest to a treadmill workout.
