Location: New York, NY, USA - Conney Island Site Leader: Lynn Neuman Organization: Artichoke Dance Company Body of water: Coney Island Creek Impact: This event will bring attention to water issues at a new climate hub in NYC, educate through a panel discussion with SurfriderNYC, 350BK, Waterfront Alliance and Billion Oyster Project, involve through coastal clean-up, an art build from collected materials, movement workshops for public integration and action tables that include petitions and postcard creation targeting elected officials. Dancers: Artichoke Dance Company, the casts of works by Bisram, Ramirez and Sher, as well as other community dancers will perform on the great lawn of Colonels Row outside the Climate Imaginarium headquarters on Governors Island for Global Water Dances Day. The four choreographers along with dancers from Artichoke Dance will lead movement workshops that precede the event to teach the Global Dance and will lead the Participatory Dance. SurfriderNYC helps organize the coastal clean up. Neuman and visual artist Ellen Driscoll lead the community art build from collected clean-up materials to create costumes for community dancers. 350BK helps to organize the educational panel. The Waterfront Alliance and Billion Oyster Project provide petitions and information on water issues affecting New York Harbor.
