Born in Georgia, Redding began his career at a young age in school choirs and bands and developed his raw and expressive voice. Redding signed with Volt Records in 1962 after they heard his rendition of “These Arms of Mine” during a recording session with Johnny Jenkins. Over the next few years, Redding released a string of hits, became a tireless live performer, and honed his songwriting abilities before his 1967 death in an unexpected plane crash.
