Asalam o alykum I welcome you all in my youtube channel "Exploring the concepts" The purpose of this channel is to facilitate the students of FSC or HSSC or higher secondary school for the fulfilment of the need of their biology syllabus. Today's topic is "Ascomycota" a class of fungi. Asexual reproduction: Production of asexual spores called conidia or conidiospores or by budding as in yeast and yeast may show binary fission Sexual Reproduction: Production of ascospores in ascocarp (fruiting body) in a special sac like structure ascus. Sexual reproduction in Ascomycota Sexual reproduction takes place when monokarytic hyphae produced by the germination of two different spores, grow together and their cytoplasms are get fused (plasmogamy). Within this fused structure, haploid nuclei from the parent hyphae pair but do not fuse. New hyphae develop from the fused structure and the cells of these hyphae are dikaryotic (n+n). The dikaryotic (n+n) hyphae grow to form a secondary mycelium which also develop a fruiting body known as ascocarp. It is a cluster of a typical elongated sac like reproductive structure of this group called asci (singular ascus) in which ascospores are produced. Ascocarp can have different shapes (cup shaped, flask shaped or crowned by bell shaped) With in an ascus the two nuclei fuse and form a diploid nucleus, the zygote which undergoes meiosis to form four haploid nuclei. This process is usually followed by one mitosis resulting in the production of eight ascospores. These spores are wind blown and requires a suitable location for germination. E.g.Yeast, Neurospora, Morels, Truffles, penicillium etc. Thank you all....!!!!!! Dont forget to like my videos and subscribe my channel and hit the bell icon as well.
