Primary amenorrhea is defined as the absence of menses at age 15 years in the presence or absence of normal growth and secondary sexual characteristics. The identification of primary amenorrhea should always prompt a thorough evaluation to identify a cause . There are various causes behind Primary amenorrhea such as Chromosomal or Genetic Abnormalities, Turner syndrome, Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome and problems with the hypothalamus or pituitary gland in the brain can cause an imbalance of hormones that can prevent periods from starting. This video is about diagnostic tests used in the evaluation of Primary amenorrhea. Different tests used in Primary amenorrhea diagnosis include Blood tests like FSH / LH, Serum Prolactin, 17 alpha hydroxyprogesterone level to diagnose congenital adrenal hyperplasia, 5 alpha reductase level, serum Testosterone level, DHEA (De hydro epi aldosterone) level.
