It was founded by Araki Mataemon at the beginning of the 17th century. The name “Shingan”, meaning roughly the """"mind’s eye"""", a Zen concept that refers to the ability to read an opponent's intentions via an inner sense. It was originally called only Shingan Ryū, but it was renamed Yagyū Shingan Ryū due to the influence of Yagyū Munenori, a famous swordmaster of the beginning of the 17th century who used to be the Shogun’s own instructor. Yagyū Shingan Ryū is an art of the battlefield, enabling a practitioner to use a wide range of weapons, in addition to grappling techniques, to be used both with and without an armor. This demonstration is performed by what is called the Edo line of the Yagyu Shingan Ryū, which is named “Taijutsu”. It is characterized by a more refined style, with a greater importance of Jūjutsu and grappling techniques, more adapted to the “Pax Tokugawa” that was enforced during the Edo period thanks to the Tokugawa Shogunate. -- CREDITS -- Footage by Seido Co., Ltd. https://www.seidoshop.com (en) https://www.seidoshop.jp (jp) https://www.seidoshop.com/blogs/the-s...
