The Original Cinemas at Festival Mall today - August 21, 2023

I recorded this clip exploring the area of the original cinemas of Festival Mall (previously called Festival Super Mall) in Alabang today. The spacious area feels sad and lonely as almost all the cinemas there have been closed for a long time. The modern cinemas of Festival Mall are located on the other side and there you will find the counter for movie tickets and another counter for snacks and drinks. Going back to the original cinemas of Festival Mall, the lady told me over the counter that only two screens (original cinemas) are operating today. That leaves many other screens - including the 4 screens of Festival Cinema Gold - closed. Think about it carefully...many closed original cinemas means lots of seats, screens and projectors no longer being used. I remember how exciting and lively Festival Mall's original cinemas used to be from 1998 until 2017. The original cinemas used to full of people each time the annual Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) opened there. While Festival Mall has modern cinemas located at a more trendy area on the same floor as the original cinemas, one has to wonder if the mall operators have any plans for the said old cinemas.
