Part I: This is a family water feature built in a previously low-lying landscape adjacent to Doctor’s Lake in Jacksonville, Florida. A wall block retaining wall was constructed to frame up a low profile up-flow filter with waterfalls cascading through sixty feet of stream. Two tractor-trailer loads of rock were meticulously placed in and around the 25’ x 25’ pond and stream. The final waterfall of the system forms a negative edge that spills into an Aquascape Aquablox constructed basin system powered with by two Aquascape 12pn Tsurumi pumps with sufficient turnover rate to filter the family Pekin ducks waste through the up-flow filter. One hundred and fifty yards of fill soil were brought in to elevate the soggy surroundings, and a drainage swale was constructed to provide onsite water retention. Stepping stones, several bridges over the stream connect viewing areas, and landscaping was crucial in completing the overall design concept. Future phases of this project will include additional hardscaping patio construction.
