One mistake - and the whole story could have ended right there... China was a country I had always dreamed of visiting at least once in my life. But it always felt distant — unpredictable, overwhelming, unknown. So when the opportunity came to join a creator trip with someone who actually spoke the language and truly knew the country, I didn’t hesitate. I packed my bags and just went for it. HOW IT STARTED: I spent my first week alone in Beijing. One of my lifelong dreams was to walk on the Great Wall of China — and finally, it became reality. What I didn’t expect was the intense culture shock. Almost no one spoke English, everything felt complicated, unfamiliar, fast. But somehow, I managed. From there, I made my way to Shanghai, where the actual creator trip officially started. HOW IT ALMOST ENDED: Shanghai started off perfectly… until I made one single mistake. That mistake led to me being arrested by the police and sitting in a police station for six hours straight. No English. No clear explanations. No idea what was going to happen next. I can’t describe how grateful I was to have someone in our group who spoke Chinese and handled the entire situation. The absolute hero of the day: Cher. In the end, I had to pay a fine — and leave my drone behind. For good. But strangely enough, I’ve never felt such a deep sense of gratitude for freedom before in my life. HOW IT CONTINUED: Traveling with like-minded people changes everything. Strangers quickly become friends. We got to experience a good mix of busy megacities and quiet nature spots. China has so many layers, contrasts, and hidden gems. Once you adapt to the culture — and the sheer number of people — it's quite fun to travel around and very safe as well, as long as you stick to the rules and regulations.. I'll certainly never forget this trip and I'm glad I could share it with some amazing people!
