Vivienne Medrano has seen commendable success with her shows "Heckin' Hotel" and "That's a Hell of a Boss!" Unfortunately, her biggest failure can be seen in the protagonist of her flagship series. Charlie Morningstar is a major weak point of Hazbin Hotel. While a lot improved from Season 1, Charlie remains a glaring problem at the heart of the cartoon. While other characters - like Angel Dust, Husk, or Alastor - have been allowed to grow and and be proactive in their own arcs; Charlie has regrettably stagnated as a passive presence in her own show. While once minor characters like Vox now steal the show, Charlie has somehow shrunk even further into the background. She ain't no Blitzo from Helluva Boss, and boy is THAT a low bar. With avenues to really utilise the character through her relationship with Lucifer or her belief in absolute redemption; she is instead wasted on Tiktok fodder, fan service, quirk chungus jokes, and shipping bait with her sex pest gf ̶V̶h̶a̶g̶i̶n̶h̶a̶ V̶a̶g̶g̶y̶ Vaggi. At times Vivzie seems to be actively skirting and skipping any of the opportunities Charlie has to deepen and engage with the audience. Join me for a little retrospective of both seasons of Hazbin Hotel to review what exactly is wrong with the protagonist of Vivziepop's best-selling story. We'll deep dive into what the show needs from a lead, the promise Charlie does have, and where it's all going wrong! Buckle up, we're checkin' into the Hotel.
