This sudden action has sparked sharp public anger, with many questioning whether roads are meant only for VIPs and elected representatives.For months, residents have complained about dangerous potholes, traffic disruptions, and accidents caused by poor road conditions. However, visible repair work began only after confirmation of the Vice President’s visit. Locals allege that authorities are merely doing temporary patchwork (“tepe kelasa”) instead of undertaking permanent, quality road development.Citizens argue that if the administration can act swiftly for a VIP visit, it should show the same urgency for public safety. Social media posts from Chikkodi residents highlight frustration over what they call “selective governance.” Many are demanding long-term road reconstruction instead of cosmetic fixes that may wash away in the next rain.Officials, on the other hand, claim that the works are part of routine maintenance.
