We met the Family in Gatlinburg, TN. to our first trip to the Great Smoky Mountains. We were there in February after Valentines Weekend and we had the best weather!! it was warm enough that we were in light sweat shirts and never got cold. in fact, we could have worn t-shirts and would have been fine. Alum Cave Bluff Trail was our second trail that we hiked and we only hiked half the trail to Alum Cave and never made it all the way up to the Inn at atop Mount LeConte. The distance to the Bluffs of Alum Cave is 2.2 miles (3.5 km) from the trail head and an elevation of 4,950 feet (1,510 m) and the height of the Bluff is 80ft. Usually, for most hikers, these bluffs are enough for a day hike but the Purists, Mount LeConte is their final destination at 6,593ft., its the third highest peak in the Smoky Mountains. We just did the hike to the Bluffs of Alum Cave and hiked back down. Had a great time and the scenery was breathtaking!
