We were supposed to get a ton of snow this weekend, but we ended up being closer to the outer edge of the storm while the heavy stuff ended up more along the coast line. We still had a few inches of light, fluffy snow and the high winds created a snow drift toward the front of the driveway, which provided for some decent "thick snow" testing for each of these snowblowers. The Power Max E26 is very powerful for sure, but really you only need it for very serious storms. There is more rotating mass in this compared to the Power Clear 21 (plus it's heavier and self-propelling) and so will use more charge to clear a given area. It also doesn't clear as close to the ground, since its scraper doesn't really scrape like the plastic scraper on the Power Clear 21. Again, though, really good for the heavy stuff and great to have in your back pocket for when you need it, but otherwise overkill in most situations. If we had very thick snow, I would have done the whole driveway with it, but still would have had to follow up with the Power Clear 21 (or a shovel) to really clear down to the driveway surface. I can adjust the sliders to lower the auger a little and get closer to the surface, but better not to risk grinding that against the asphalt. The Power Clear 21 is more efficient (the thicker/damper snow we had previously took about half a charge with this for the full driveway) and considerably less expensive. It also has a metal auger which helps it just demolish what's in its path. This is the third snowstorm I've used it for, and not once has it clogged (even in wetter snow like what we had a week or two ago). I suspect the metal auger breaks the snow down better than the rubber auger in the Power Curve 18 (and other corded units) and so it's less likely to clog up. Overall, I'm very happy with both, but the Power Clear 21 is my go-to, since it's lighter, more efficient, and gets the job done in most circumstances for the weather we get here. The fact that it's cordless is a major plus and makes it waaaaaayyyyy faster than the (corded) Power Curve 18. I can just zip, zip, zip up and down the driveway and be done in 20 minutes or so for a "typical" storm.
