New Jersey might be known for things like the Jersey Shore, Atlantic City casinos, boardwalks, diners and being sandwiched between New York City and Philadelphia… but like every state, it also has places that struggle with crime. In this video we’re breaking down the 10 most dangerous places in New Jersey, based primarily on violent crime rates and property crime rates compared to the national average. Some of the places on this list probably won’t surprise you at all… and a few of them might make you do a double take. We’re looking at a mix of places across the Garden State — from dense cities in the New York metro area, to older industrial communities, to tourist destinations along the Jersey Shore, and even smaller cities tucked away in the rural parts of South Jersey. Many of these places boomed during the industrial era and later struggled when factories closed and jobs disappeared. Along the way we’ll also look at things like poverty rates, median household income, population changes, and economic struggles, because those things often go hand-in-hand with higher crime rates. Of course statistics only tell part of the story. Every place has good people, good neighborhoods, and people working hard to improve their communities… even in places that show up on lists like this.
