fool's discord server:   / discord   I've always tried to improve my aim since the very start of playing FPS games. I've looked at many guides and YouTube videos. However, I could never really find any technical guide that I felt like put in a lot of thought to really break it all down to something useful. Every guide I've read or watched out there just says "practice", and they give you some drills then send you on your way. However, that was really frustrating for me. I really like having a technical breakdown and an in-depth understanding. That is what I believe this guide is. It is an in-depth breakdown of how to control your mouse efficiently to learn how to aim in an FPS. HARDWARE Before you begin playing the game, you need to set yourself up for success, and the only way to do that is to have the proper tools for the job. You need 4 things in this order from most to least important: If you're playing online, internet connection with less than 100 ms ping to the servers. Preferably, with less than 50 ms ping. You need to be able to run the game at least 60 FPS at all times. A bigger mouse pad/mat of at least 32 cm. I recommend Steel Series QCK if you're just starting out. It's a good quality mouse pad with a low price. A mouse with an accurate sensor. I recommend a Zowie or Logitech gaming mouse. I believe that all of these things are pretty much equally as important. However, I tried to rank them in case you have a budget and you can only fix one at a time. SENSITIVITY The first thing you need to know about sensitivity is cm/360 (centimeters per 360) or in/360 (inches per 360). It is the amount of physical distance you move your mouse across your mouse pad to turn 360 degrees in the game. I will be referencing this as cm/360 because I prefer that unit of measurement. To figure out what cm/360 you play on you can manually measure it or you can use https://www.mouse-sensitivity.com or google some other calculator if it doesn't have the game you play. The reason you want to know your cm/360 is because it the best way to measure your FPS sensitivity universally. If you're new and need a starting sensitivity for Overwatch, I recommend your cm/360 to be between 25 and 50. However, I would advise you push your cm/360 up as high as you can stand at first, especially if you're new to FPS games. This will help promote your arm aim which I will talk more about later. EYE-HAND COORDINATION & FOV The most important thing in aiming in an FPS is Eye-hand coordination. It allows you to aim without thinking. By this I mean, I'm sure most beginner FPS players look at their cross-hair/reticle and then try to put it on top of their target. This uses a lot of your focus and concentration, and while it is effective, it isn't optimal especially in Overwatch where there is so much going that you need to save as much focus and concentration for what's going on around you. How you should be aiming is by only looking at your target and let your hand match where your eyes are moving. This is why you need to pick a sensitivity and stick with it so that your eye-hand coordination can build. The next thing to address is Field Of View (FOV). FOV is important to understand because this affects your visual perception of the virtual distance of your targets. This is a major factor in why it can be hard to transition between games and maintain your aim even if you use the same cm/360. If you play a game with a higher FOV or make your FOV bigger, it will make the targets look farther away so you'll need to increase your sensitivity if you want to maintain your eye-hand coordination. Conversely, if you play a game with a lower FOV or make your FOV smaller, it will make the targets look closer so you'll need to decrease your sensitivity if you want to maintain your eye-hand coordination. This is why most games have a "Scope" sensitivity. It allows you to decrease your sensitivity because when you look through the scope your FOV is lowered to give the perception that you are "magnifying" your view. Therefore, you need a lower sensitivity to maintain your eye-hand coordination so you can match your visual perception of the virtual distance of your targets. Should you have a high FOV or low FOV? I would say put it as high as you can. The only time I would recommend lowering your FOV is if you have trouble seeing targets at far distances, or you want to be more precise shooting targets at far distances. Should I change my FOV? No because it will just mess up your eye-hand coordination. Only lower it if you want to achieve either of the things listed previously. #VALORANT #AIM #HACKING
