Composed and performed by Charles-Marie-Jean-Albert Widor 1844 - 1937. Widor was a French organist, composer and teacher of the late Romantic era of Hungarian descent. His name was originally spelled "Vidor", meaning "Happy", in the Hungarian language. As a composer he is known for his ten organ symphonies, especially the toccata of his fifth organ symphony, which is frequently played as recessional music at weddings and other celebrations. C.M. Widor's Marche Pontificale (from Organ Symphony No. 1, Op. 13), composed in the early 1870s and revised later, is in the public domain. Public Domain Status: The work is considered in the public domain because it was published before January 1, 1930, particularly in the United States. It is widely available for free download on sites like the International Music Score Library Project (IMSLP). Original Composition: The Marche Pontificale was written in 1872 (with revisions in 1887, 1901, and 1918), making the original sheet music free from copyright restrictions. The animated portrait is of Pope Pius VIII in Procession at the Vatican. The young man at the organ console was me in my teens serving my ten year post as Cathedral organist around 1970.
