This video is a REAL conversation about colorism and featurism and how they’ve played a huge role in why many Black dark-skinned women choose to date outside their race. Let’s be very clear: this isn’t about “self-hate,” “betrayal,” or seeking validation. It’s about survival, safety, appreciation, and being chosen without conditions. For far too long, dark-skinned women with Afrocentric features have been criticized, mocked, overlooked, and disrespected within systems that were supposed to protect and uplift us. Colorism and featurism didn’t start with us—but we’ve carried the heaviest weight of it. From media representation to dating standards, to everyday interactions, dark-skinned women have been taught that we’re “too much” or “not enough” at the same time. So when a woman decides to go where she is valued, desired, and treated well, that choice should NEVER be judged or ridiculed. This video is about accountability, not blame. It’s about naming the truth, honoring dark-skinned women’s lived experiences, and pushing back against the disrespect that shows up as “opinions.” You don’t get to mistreat someone and then police where they find love. Dark-skinned women are allowed to choose happiness. We are allowed to date freely. We are allowed to go where our beauty is celebrated not tolerated.
