Dopo tanto viaggiare ha capito che il valore dell’esperienza non dipende dalla montagna, ma dagli occhi dell’alpinista. Hervé crede che oggi l’avventura si possa trovare anche sulla porta di casa, che per lui è la Valle d’Aosta. Basta scegliere le stagioni più inconsuete, accettare rischi e fatiche, e soprattutto cercare con passione lasciando correre la fantasia. Nel 2011 Hervé sceglie le tre montagne più importanti della sua Valle, tra le più alte delle Alpi – il Monte Bianco, il Monte Rosa e il Cervino – e inventa tre vie nuove: con due amici baschi, con suo padre Marco, infine da solo. Questo film racconta in presa diretta le tre avventure, eccezionali per i luoghi, le distanze e lo spirito che le accompagna: il pilastro di sinistra del Brouillard, la parete sud est della Punta Gnifetti e il Picco Muzio al Cervino, dove Hervé affronta in solitaria grandi rischi e alte difficoltà. La trilogia di Barmasse è un omaggio alla grande montagna e allo spirito inesauribile dell’alpinismo classico, lo stesso che fece scrivere a Mummery: “Il vero alpinista è l’uomo che tenta nuove ascensioni. After so much traveling he realized that the value of the experience does not depend on the mountain, but on the eyes of the mountaineer. Hervé believes that today the adventure can also be found on the doorstep, which for him is the Aosta Valley. Just choose the most unusual seasons, accept risks and efforts, and above all seek with passion by letting your imagination run wild. In 2011, Hervé chose the three most important mountains of his home in Italy’s Aosta Valley—Monte Bianco (Mont Blanc); Monte Rosa; and Monte Cervino (the Matterhorn)—upon which to create three new routes. The three peaks, not coincidentally, are among the highest in the Alps. On Monte Bianco, with two Basque friends, Barmasse established a new route on the left pillar of the Brouillard. On Monte Rosa, he put up a new route on the southeast face of the Punta Gnifetti with his father Marco. Finally, on Cervino, in the face of high risk and difficulty, he established a new route on Peak Muzio, solo. All three climbing adventures were exceptional for their location, their remoteness and for the spirit that characterized them. And now, all three climbs have been captured in the film, “Not So Far”. The Barmasse Trilogy is a tribute to the high mountains and to the inexhaustible spirit of classical mountaineering, the same spirit that prompted Alfred Mummery to write, “The true mountaineer is the man who attempts new ascents, and equally, whether he succeeds or fails, delights in the fun and joy of the struggle.”
