Afghanistan's Taliban reps wowed by Chinese car firm at SPIEF 2025 in St Petersburg

Taliban representatives were seen attending the St Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF 2025) on Wednesday. Footage shows members of the Afghan delegation examining vehicles from China’s Great Wall Motors (GWM) firm at the ExpoForum congress and exhibition centre. In April, Russia’s Supreme Court suspended the Taliban’s designation as a 'terrorist organisation'. Russia became one of the first countries to give accreditation to a diplomat from the Taliban government, in 2022, while the administration has not received widespread global recognition. The Taliban took control of Afghanistan following the chaotic US withdrawal in August 2021. SPIEF 2025, taking place on June 18-21, involves over 20,000 participants from 140 countries.
