Leiomyoma (Part 1) | Obstetrics & Gynecology for USMLE Step 2 CK | Pathogenesis & Types In this high-yield lecture, we begin our series on leiomyomas (uterine fibroids)—the most common benign tumors of the female reproductive tract. These smooth muscle tumors of the uterus are clinically significant because they are a major cause of abnormal uterine bleeding, pelvic pain, infertility, and pregnancy complications. As a frequently tested topic, leiomyomas are high-yield for USMLE Step 2 CK. We start with the definition and pathogenesis, explaining how leiomyomas arise from monoclonal proliferation of uterine smooth muscle cells under the influence of estrogen and progesterone. Growth typically occurs during reproductive years, while regression is common after menopause. The lecture also reviews the classification based on location: Submucosal fibroids: beneath the endometrium, often causing heavy menstrual bleeding and infertility. Intramural fibroids: within the myometrium, leading to an enlarged uterus and bulk-related symptoms. Subserosal fibroids: project outward, sometimes pedunculated, causing pressure symptoms. Clinical emphasis is placed on differentiating leiomyomas from other uterine pathologies such as adenomyosis and endometrial polyps. By covering the definition, hormonal basis, and types of fibroids, this lecture lays the foundation for Part 2, where we will focus on clinical features, diagnostic approaches, and management strategies. It is designed for medical students, residents, and clinicians preparing for USMLE Step 2 CK and for those practicing in U.S. and Western healthcare systems. #Leiomyoma #UterineFibroids #USMLEStep2CK #ObstetricsAndGynecology #BenignUterineTumor #Gynecology #ReproductiveHealth #ClinicalObGyn #MaternalFetalMedicine #AbnormalUterineBleeding #USMLEPreparation #MedicalStudentsUSA #DoctorEducation #MedicalEducationUSA #Step2CKPrep #USMLEVideos #OBGYNClerkship #ConceptualMedicine #MedicalConcepts #NEETPGPrep #FMGE2025 #USMLE2025 #ClinicalMedicine #MBBSConcepts #NextExamPrep #MedSchoolMadeEasy #MedStudentLife #HighYieldMedicine #PathophysiologySimplified #LearnMedicineFast #VisualMedicine #MedicalMnemonics #CrackNEETPG #USMLEStep1Prep #MedEducationRevolution #MBBSShorts #DoctorInTheMaking
