When that system changes, rewards are often the first thing consumers lose.  A recent Morning Consult poll on behalf of the Points Guy reveals a significant national trend: while consumers are largely unaware of emerging state-level mandates shifting how tax and tip portions of credit and debit card transactions are processed, opposition skyrockets once the real-world implications are explained. Using Illinois as a primary case study, the data indicates that Americans are overwhelmingly opposed to changes that could complicate daily transactions and threaten popular rewards programs.
