Today we're visiting a beautiful place in County Fermanagh called the village of Belleek because today we are visiting the internationally famous Belleek Pottery. A lot of work goes into these videos. You can now buy me a pint as a means of appreciation for my work on Naked Ireland, no obligation, obviously - only if you can afford it... I appreciate it. Cheers. https://www.buymeacoffee.com/NakedIre... The visitor’s centre is housed in this magnificent neo-Georgian manor house, where the brand was established way back in 1857. That makes it Ireland’s oldest working fine china pottery. For those of you who perhaps know about this kind of thing, I’m informed that The factory produces what’s called Parian ware, which is characterised by its thinness, slightly iridescent surface and body formulated with a significant proportion of frit. Personally I just know it as the china with the "wee" shamrocks all over it! In fact, for those of you, like me, who think of the Belleek product in terms of the shamrock adorned china, think again, because Belleek, as can be seen here, has masses of product lines, some in the classic shamrock design, but lots of other stuff besides. And their products are not confined to plates, cups and vases either. Moving from the gift shop to the museum we see an even broader range of products. Now I quite like the some of the traditional items, but I must admit that I find a lot of Belleek pottery a bit chinsy and old fashioned. Obviously if you’re watching this you’re probably a fan of Belleek in which case you’ll be struck down in horror with that last statement. But there’s no doubt about this companies importance in the field of fine china. And the pottery’s longevity is impressive too. I even find the museum and gift shop a little bit dated and well, not to my taste. But that’s neither here nor there. It’s not my opinion that counts. What do you think of Belleek, are you a fan, do you have some in your home? Let us know in the comments below. In fact Belleek Pottery isn’t only Belleek pottery anymore. Its acquired a number of new businesses such as Galway Crystal and Aynsley China. Needless to say the company is now considerably bigger than it once was employing more than 600 people and with a £30 million annual turnover. There’s all manner of playful things exhibited in the museum. The range of the output it incredible. If this has been interesting or informative give the film a like, but please consider subscribing to support the channel so that I can keep these films coming. We end the film with a striking figure of our own St Patrick offering us all a blessing. It’s not my cup of tea, but I’m curious as to how much this costs? I wish I had asked. I should mention before I go that you can actually do a tour of the pottery while you’re here, just check the opening hours – unlike me!
